WE ARE Club HOME MADE
We are Becky and Ada, the women behind Club Home Made. We first met a few years ago when Ada was volunteering at a farm Becky managed. Fast forward, and we’ve found ourselves working at the same farm, swapping recipes, and corralling our friends to cook more and eat better. We’re so happy you’ve found your way to Club Home Made!
When we’re not busy at the farm, the kitchen is our happy place and has been since we were wee little girls, standing on stools to get a better view of the counter.
Becky was born in North Carolina but spent her childhood in China and Thailand. As a kid, Becky went grocery shopping with her family at bustling open air markets throughout Asia. She comes by her appreciation of global flavors and ingredient-driven cooking honestly. At the age of 15, while working with her father in remote tribal villages in Thailand, she began to understand the link between farming, food and community health. Right then and there decided she wanted to be a farmer. This quest led her to study Agronomy and International Agriculture at Iowa State and Cornell, respectively. After dabbling in food education for a while, Becky stuck by her teenage convocation and has been farming for the past 10 years.
Ada’s food traditions are rooted in Lafayette, Louisiana where she was born and raised on a balanced diet of all the Cajun staples that might come to mind. Ada fell in love with Central Texas and spent her college years studying psychology and art at St. Edward’s while exploring Texas's endless swimming holes. After college, Ada moved to Jerusalem where her appreciation and infatuation with cooking and food traditions really blossomed. In Jerusalem, Ada's apartment for two years was located just above Jerusalem's open-air farmers' market, and so fresh ingredients were picked daily, recipes swapped with local farmers and fishmongers, and the market became the center of her life. If it sounds dreamy, it was. After leaving Israel, Ada's taste buds and appetite for fresh food was never the same, and she knew she wanted to work where all good meals begin: sustainable and local farms. For the past 5 years, Ada's been the marketing and CSA Manager at Johnson's Backyard Garden where the seeds were planted for our best meals yet!
